This project is to create 6 credit centers (Village Banks) in communities with big concentration of poverty in an around the province of Esmeraldas and Pichincha, Ecuador   Statistics show that the level of poverty in Esmeraldas is 94.35% in rural areas. These credit Centers will provide micro-credit loans averaging around $250 to people with limited resources.  Following the Grameen Bank mode, these centers will help the participants undertake their own small businesses.   This project will help approximately 180 people. The Cooperating Partner, FUDECE, has offices in Esmeraldas and Pichincha Province and has several years of experience operating micro-credit programs. They also provide training programs for the participants. Poverty affects a high number of people in Ecuador.  This program will help the poorest of the poor in the Esmeraldas and Pichincha Provinces.  It will provide the participants a way to feed their families and improve their lives and their living conditions.  Many of the resources in this project will be directed to communities where Rotary Clubs are already working with the local residents and other humanitarian projects such as clean water, economic development, and health and literacy initiatives.
