Letta Micro Finance Institution had its beginnings in 2001 when International Assistance Program (IAP), a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization headquartered in Spokane, WA started funding loans for Gedeo women in southern Ethiopia. In 2004 Letta received a license from the National Bank of Ethiopia making Letta one of about 25 licensed MFI's in Ethiopia. As of 12/31/08, Letta had approximately 450 borrowing customers and about $130,00 in loans outstanding. Letta is Ethiopian owned and operated. Funding for Letta has come solely from IAP.
