Ten years ago the tiny hamlet of Chitrapur used to be like any of the poorer villages you will find in India - no high school, no hospital, and not much hope for the people who lived there.People flocked to the cities for education or employment. But in 1997 the Srivali Trust decided to make a difference in their lives.

In 1999 Srivali Samvit Sudha was started to help under privileged women earn a sustenance income from learning tailoring and other skills. As more young women are joining the programme every year, they need sewing machines to establish their own tailoring units.

Srivali Clinic was also started as a Primary Health Centre with a qualified medical practitioner. Diagnosis and medicines are free. The clinic requires equipment to cater to minor surgeries and deliveries.

In 2004 Srivali High School was started. 350 students today get free education, uniforms, books and midday meals (which is the only meal of the day for many children). With growing demand for admissions each year the school needs more facilities. They have an adjacent building where the Trust wishes to provide computers, library facility, sports equipment and laboratory equipment.
